בהרצאה ננסה לענות על שאלות אלו (ושאלות רבות נוספות) דרך מפגש עם פרספקטיבות פילוסופיות, היסטוריות, תיאלוגיות, תרבותיות ופסיכולוגיות הפותחות צוהר מרתק למושג החמקמק והמתעתע שנקרא תקווה. את המפגש ילוו תוצאות ממחקרים אימפריים עכשווים המגלים את מרכזיות התקווה בתהליכי שינוי. נסיים את המפגש עם תובנות ישימות שיעזרו לכל אחת ואחד מאיתנו להשתמש בתקווה בצורה אופטימאלית באתגרים קטנים וגדולים שעומדים לפנינו.

Lecture
The past and future of hope
Combining philosophical, historical, theological, and psychological perspectives, the lecture takes the audience on a journey into the depths of hope and its role in our lives. Based on research on hope in times of crisis, the talk answers thought-provoking questions such as: What is hope? How did hope affect human evolution, and how does hope operate in the current era marked by uncertainty? What are its merits and dangers? What is the optimal type of hope, and how can we practice it on a daily basis?
The talk includes a glimpse into original data collected on the hope for peace in conflict zones worldwide and results from hope-inducing experiments. We’ll end the talk with some practical insights on how to use hope effectively when we face the big and small challenges that come our way.

We all face challenges, be they big or small. In our families, communities, or professional lives, facing these challenges often requires a particular type of hope: strong, durable, and active. Following the lecture, the workshop is designed to create a more intimate encounter with the concept of Optimal Hope. The workshop’s goal is to apply insights from the lecture to help participants use Optimal Hope to cope with real-world challenges. Through fun activities, open discussions, and lots of humor, we will hone our understanding of Optimal Hope and its ability to help us succeed in our personal, professional, and social lives.

The workshop will begin by introducing hope, its meaning, function, and centrality in driving and sustaining social change. Based on participants' new understanding of hope and its role in times of crisis, this workshop adopts a future-oriented approach to examine the possibilities of a new relationship between the Jewish community outside of Israel and Israel's citizenry. The workshop is highly interactive and aims to offer practical tools for Jewish leaders, communities, and congregations who care about Israel and wish to be involved in the struggle for Israel’s democracy.

Hope in politics
Hope (and despair) drive micro and macro politics, from individual dissent to mass participation in protests, from declarations of war to the signing of peace treaties. We all know something about hope from our personal experiences, but what is hope exactly, and how does it function on the social and political levels? The talk will answer these (and many more) questions by looking at hope as a social and political phenomenon. Through philosophical, historical, theological, and cultural perspectives, we will try to unravel the role of hope as a catalyst of change and explore how leaders use hope (and skepticism) as strategies that shape contemporary politics.

The socio-psychological infrastructure of conflict
How can we use hope to drive and sustain effective change processes? What is the role of hope within civil society organizations? What are the Optimal Hope principles, and how can they be implemented in the field? All this and more in a workshop designated to improve the work of organizations, programs, and initiatives for social and political change. In the workshop, we will focus on the future and think together about how to use hope strategically.

The talk is based on a central theory in political psychology that holds that protracted conflicts are not driven by competition over resources but by a rigid, stable, and tightly-knit system of subjective perceptions, beliefs, and emotions that have cemented in the “hearts and minds” of those involved in the conflict.
In the talk, we will get intimately acquainted with the psychological elements that form the infrastructure of conflict, including the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, and discuss ways this infrastructure could be transformed. During the lecture, participants will be exposed to new and original data from conflict zones worldwide.
Dr. Oded Leshem came to our leadership program to give his fascinating talk on the psychological system that drives conflict. We learned about the beliefs and perceptions of people involved in conflict, which enabled us to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from a scientific perspective. Oded speaks with much knowledge and passion on the subject. I highly recommend it!

גזענות ואפליה הן תופעות חברתיות שמקורותיהן ההיסטוריים נידונים רבות. אך מהן היסודות הפסיכולוגיים שעומדים מאחורי תופעות מסוכנות אלו? במפגש נכיר לעומק תאוריות וממצאים מתחום הפסיכולוגיה הפוליטית המסבירים מדוע גזענות ואפליה הן תופעות כל כך נפוצות. בנוסף, נחשף למחקרים מרחבי העולם שהצליחו להפחית אפליה וגזענות.
מהם המנגנונים הפסיכולוגיים שמופעלים כשאנו נחשפים לתקשורת פוליטית? ובאילו דרכים (גלויות וסמויות) מעצבת התקשורת את עמדותינו והתנהגויותינו הפוליטיות? במפגש נכיר מספר הטיות קוגניטיביות שמשפיעות על האופן שבו אנחנו מגיבים למסרים פוליטיים ונדון על התפר בין פרופגנדה ותקשורת חופשית. במהלך ההרצאה ננתח קמפיינים וידיעות תקשורתיות מהארץ ומהעולם ונדון בדרכים שבהן תקשורות יכולה להגן על הדמוקרטיה.
בבסיס המפגש עומדת תאוריה מרכזית בפסיכולוגיה פוליטית, שסכסוכים שנמשכים שנים רבות אינם ניסובים סביב מאבק על משאבים אלא מונעים ממערכת סבוכה של תפיסות, אמונות ורגשות סובייקטיביים שהתפתחו לאורך הזמן בקרב חברי "קבוצת הפנים" וחברי "קבוצת החוץ". במפגש נכיר את המערכת הפסיכולוגית שמניעה סכסוכים בינלאומיים, כולל את הסכסוך "שלנו", ומה אפשר לעשות כדי לשנות אותה. המפגש מלווה בנתונים עדכניים מקונפליקטים שונים ברחבי העולם.
ד"ר עודד לשם בא למכינת רבין בקיבוץ אדמית כדי להעביר את הרצאתו המרתקת על התשתית הפסיכולוגית מאחורי סכסוכים. למדנו על האמנות והתפיסות של אנשים הנמצאים בסכסוך, כך שלמדנו על הסכסוך הישראלי-פלסטיני מנקודת מבט מדעית והדבר העלה לנו מחשבות מעניינות שעוררו דיון חשוב ומלמד. עודד מדבר עם תשוקה ועניין רב בנושא. ממולץ מאוד!
